Vestibular Rebabilitation Therapy
Specialized Physiotherapy for Balance, Dizziness, and Inner Ear Disorders
At One Wellness, select physiotherapists offer Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT)—a targeted, exercise-based approach designed to alleviate dizziness, vertigo, and balance disturbances related to inner ear or neurological dysfunction. This specialized therapy helps retrain the brain and body to respond more effectively to motion, positional changes, and sensory input.
What is Vestibular Rehabilitation?
Vestibular Rehabilitation is a customized physiotherapy program focused on improving function and reducing symptoms caused by issues within the vestibular system—the part of the inner ear and brain responsible for controlling balance and eye movements. Through a combination of manual therapy, repositioning techniques, and personalized exercises, VRT can restore stability, reduce dizziness, and improve quality of life.
Common Conditions Treated
-
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
-
Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis
-
Post-concussion dizziness
-
Migraine-associated vertigo
-
Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD)
-
Balance disorders and falls risk
How It Works
Treatment begins with a detailed assessment to identify the root cause of your dizziness or imbalance. Your physiotherapist may use clinical tests to evaluate eye movements, balance reactions, and vestibular function. Based on your diagnosis, a tailored treatment plan may include:
-
Canalith repositioning maneuvers (e.g., Epley maneuver)
-
Gaze stabilization and habituation exercises
-
Balance retraining
-
Neck and upper body manual therapy (if contributing to symptoms)
-
Education and strategies for managing symptoms
What to Expect
Vestibular rehab sessions are one-on-one and typically range from 30–60 minutes, depending on your needs. While some exercises may temporarily provoke symptoms, this is a normal and expected part of the retraining process. Most clients experience significant improvement in symptoms over the course of several sessions.
Is Vestibular Rehab Right for You?
If you experience dizziness, vertigo, unsteadiness, or motion sensitivity—especially if these symptoms interfere with daily life—Vestibular Rehabilitation may be an effective solution. A thorough assessment by one of our trained physiotherapists will help determine whether this therapy is appropriate and safe for you.
